They’re like friends you know if they cheat on their
partners, hook up with each other and then gossip about it (shhh!) behind
closed doors.
That’s the premise behind “Close Friends,’’ a South
Florida-produced scripted web series that asks viewers each week,”Can a man and
woman be close friends without anything more?”
And viewers have been having a lovefest with this urban
telenovela since it debuted last February. The last episode of the first
season, which aired 10 episodes, drew 56,000 views on Youtube. Episodes are
averaging 20,000 to 30,000 views and growing.
The program stars six real friends from Broward and Palm Beach
counties who are in their 20s. They either met in middle, high school and at
Florida Atlantic University or through one another. I spent some time with the cast during a recent rehearsal and shoot just outside Fort Lauderdale. Here's my story on the series. And here's a recap of the first season from earlier this year.
